JO GAMEL is a multimedia artist: painter, sculptor, musician and fiction author based in Philadelphia. Her work explores mystery, power, and hope.
She holds a BFA from Moore College of Art and Design and has completed certification courses at PAFA and Sotheby’s NYC. In grad school, she studied Art Therapy and clinical mental health counseling at Antioch University, Seattle.
Gamel’s work has been included in group exhibitions in institutions such as The Magic Gardens Museum, European Museum of Modern Art Barcelona, the Women In Art Biennale in London, and Louvre Museum in Paris. Her solo exhibitions include “Deep Pink” (2025), at The Jane Gallery and The Arts League of Philadelphia (2020), and Crown of Creation gallery (2023).
Gamel has participated in artist residencies at Governor’s School NJ (2007), award-funded travel to study in Saint Petersburg, Russia (2012), and she has been awarded fellowships/grants such as the Excellence in Painting award (2012) and Women in Art Excellence Award (2024).
Gamel art work has been featured in Create! magazine, and has been a featured guest on podcasts such as Art & Cocktails. Her writing has been featued on podcasts such as Monsters, Metal and Magic and Metal Forge Radio and her science fiction is published by DMR books. Her writing has also been selected as a favorite work by GoodReads.com. Gamel’s music has received high praise from FENRIZ RADIO by Fenriz (Dark Throne) himself. She also is a member of the board of directors at Art League of Philadelphia, where she teaches. Gamel has also taught at the Free Library of Philadelphia, Moore College, The Arts League, and the Gibby Center for the Arts.
