“Sappho and Hypatia” captures the quiet majesty of ritual observation, where feathers, shells, and mirrored optics converge in an altar-like arrangement of feminine wisdom and wonder. Gamel’s luminous palette evokes the alchemical glow of moonlight on water, drawing upon ancient healing traditions and seaside sanctuaries. This work meditates on beauty, clarity, and the unseen forces of care, creating a tableau both serene and spiritually charged.
This mixed-media depiction of the “Quintuple-Headed Bass Goddess” is composed of acrylic paint, oil paint, florescent paint and found objects on linen. The three portraits in the heads of the life-size bass guitar are Julia Lange of Vixen, Cici “Worcesterfarian” Powell, and Heike Mueller of Rosy Vista. The other two bass heads contain circular mirrors in equal size to the portraits. The function of these mirrors is to reflect that you and I can see the bass goddess within ourselves too.
